Our Garden Railway
As Featured in 'Garden Rail' magazine - issue 214
Before we started our railway the garden was mainly a lawn (first laid in 1993) which provided a seating area, a games area for grandchildren - and needed frequent mowing! The constraints to the railway were the pergola and decking area as well as the pond - all of which were not to be disturbed. The washing line also had to be avoided!
Construction started in late 2005. There are more than 50 breeze blocks which are secured in position by 12" steel rods. 6 tons of hardcore and decorative stone was barrowed from the front of the house. There are 27 yards of Peco track and 8 sets of points. Construction was completed by summer 2006.
This latest view of the railway was taken on 5th May 2013 from near the washing line.
